In this first edition of Behind the Frame, we take a journey into the abstract realm of Cesare Bellassai — the digital artist behind Bellassai Art. Rooted in emotion and exploration, Cesare’s abstract creations take us on a journey through nature, memory, and motion. His latest work dips into Nordic minimalism, blending calm tones and open space to capture that quiet, breath-of-fresh-air feeling only nature can give. Grab your coffee (or your sketchbook) and settle in — Cesare’s sharing the stories behind his art, his creative rituals, and how travel keeps his imagination in motion.

"I paint to leave a trace, or to remember who I was when I made that mark, or who I am right now."

How do you structure your day?

My day starts very early, around 6:30am. I then review the work I completed the day before, check my notes, and begin to paint or draw, depending on the project. At 8:30, I have breakfast with my wife. Afterwards, I continue working; it's often a challenge to find the right direction, but once I find it, the time flies by.

What are you working on at the moment?

At the moment, I’m working on my new Nordic Art Collection. I’ve recently returned to drawing (always digitally) on my iPad. I love minimalist art and I am truly enjoying these days of work.

"Nordic Art is beautiful, simple, conceptual, and poetic."

How do you approach creative roadblocks?

I don't actually believe in roadblocks. I think there are simply days when you feel the need to listen more to yourself. The best artworks always come out when I don't have any ideas.

Where do you find inspiration? What trends inspire your current work?

My inspiration comes from everywhere and everything, though I’ve recently discovered that lakes and mountains provide me with greater focus. I choose not to follow trends, as they fade quickly. My priority is to create something truly beautiful and poetic: art that can inspire people, encourage dreaming, and bring them genuine happiness.

How does your background or environment influence your art?

My art is influenced more by my travels than by my background, though of course, I also have my heroes in art history. When I travel, I open my eyes, my heart, and my soul to awe and curiosity. I think of myself as a nomad and an image hunter.

How has your artistic style evolved, and why do you think it has changed?

I hate the concept of style; style is for the pastry chef who keeps making the same little treats. Style doesn't evolve—the person evolves, because you grow, because you see what surrounds you with different eyes, because you feel things differently. These are sensations, like hot and cold water when it touches you or when you drink it. I live by sensations, by scents, by colors, by forms, and by non-forms. I paint to leave a trace, or to remember who I was when I made that mark, or who I am right now.

Talking with Cesare reminds us how art and exploration go hand in hand. Whether he’s experimenting with new textures or chasing the light across a landscape, his work proves that inspiration can come from anywhere — if you’re open to seeing it. Follow Bellassai Art to see his latest Nordic-inspired works in progress — and maybe get inspired to start your own next piece, wherever your imagination takes you.

Cesare Bellassai (b. 1980, Sicily) is an artist based in Italy. His paintings explore the beauty and power of color, blending with the freedom of gesture. His goal is to create artworks without supporting a particular style, but instead incorporating different visual expressions and poetic sensations of what he sees around him, in total FREEDOM, through landscapes, flowers, and abstraction. His paintings, in both form and color, are meant to challenge everyday experience and encourage the viewer to live in harmony.
